Transfer Student Checklist

• Set up or reset your initial password.
• Confirm your information in your myNKU account.
• View myNKU tutorials.

Your username (the prefix to your NKU email address) and set password gives you access to all NKU systems - myNKU, Canvas, Webmail, etc. 

• Pay your confirmation fee in your myNKU account.
• Transfer students are eligible for priority registration AFTER meeting with an advisor; this meeting can take place before orientation. Schedule an appointment with your advisor now by calling the department in which your major is housed.
• Need a placement test? There are benchmarks in Kentucky for college readiness, and specific scores may require students to take a placement test. For more information and to register, contact NKU Testing Services.

Adult and Transfer Center (ATC) Orientation

All new incoming students are required to participate in an orientation experience. Our programs are designed to assist you with understanding our university culture, your academic program, the transfer credit articulation process, and will familiarize you with navigating our campus.

Virtual Orientation Registration

All students accepted into an online program will need to complete an online orientation. You will need your NKU user ID (from your letter of acceptance) and password to set up an account. For questions about the online student orientation, please email Orientation.

On-Campus Orientation Registration

This orientation mode is designed specifically for our transfer, adult, military-affiliated, and student parents. It is an on-campus experience that will introduce you to campus resources at NKU. You will learn about student services, technology at NKU, your financial aid packet, and your academic major and college. Please select the date below that works best for you and complete the registration. We look forward to welcoming you to your next stop – NKU!

Choose your on-campus orientation date  

Students participating in Orientation are required to pay the $100 fee. You can pay your Orientation Fee by logging into your myNKU account, select "Student Self Service," and then select "Orientation Payment."

*Advising and course registration is NOT included as part of the Adult and Transfer Center orientation program. You are eligible to be advised and register as soon you have been accepted to the university and confirm your enrollment. Once you have paid the $75 Enrollment Confirmation Fee, you may contact your advisor and make an appointment. We encourage you to do so as soon as possible!

• Complete the Federal Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Please note that some students are randomly selected to complete a verification process.
• Check your NKU email for updates.
• Need help? Contact NKU's Office of Financial Assistance.

• Utilize NKU's Quick Links at the top of each NKU webpage.
• Check your NKU e-mail often. All official communication from NKU will go to your NKU email address. 
• Explore Canvas, NKU's Student Learning Management System.
  • View Canvas tutorials
• Visit Norse Alert to sign up for text messages and/or phone calls regarding campus emergencies and weather warnings.
• Contact the IT help desk at (859) 572-6911 if you need technical assistance.

• Visit the official NKU Bookstore, located in the University Center, or order your books online.
• Keep your receipts and leave books wrapped in cellophane until you have the correct books for all your classes.

• If you attend Northern Exposure, have your photo taken during your session and pick up your NKU All Card at the conclusion of the program.
• If you plan to complete the online orientation program, you may visit the All Card office (Student Union 120) as early as two weeks before classes begin and at least two business days after registering for classes. Bring a current driver’s license, state-issued photo ID, or passport.
  • Online only students: if you have not been issued an NKU All Card previously and would like to receive one, contact the All Card office by email no sooner than two weeks prior to the start of the semester to request one. Include your full name and the last four digits of your social security number. This is an accommodation for fully online students only. If you will be taking any classes on campus, you will need to visit the office for an All Card.

You may be eligible to be a TRIO SSS participant if you are a first-generation college student (neither parent/guardian has earned a bachelor’s degree), come from a limited income family, or have a documented disability. Priority acceptance to the program goes to students who are both first-generation AND limited income.

Veterans Resource Station

The Veterans Resource Station's mission is to be a one-stop liaison that fosters a community to provide, facilitate, and coordinate programs and services for our veterans, military affiliated students, faculty and staff in accomplishing their goals. 

Earn college credit for your military training. All military transcripts including the Community College of the Air Force transcripts should be sent to:

Once transcripts are received, a Transfer Evaluator will enter your coursework and evaluate courses based on guidelines set forth by ACE recommendations. Once entered and evaluated, a Transfer Credit Approval Report will be mailed to you. Please allow 2-4 weeks for the entry and evaluation of your transcript. There is no fee for these transcripts.

Parents Attending College (PAC) serves parents attending college at Northern Kentucky University. We realize that being a student parent comes with a unique set of challenges. We're here to assist you in attaining the services you need to persist to graduation. Navigating the various support programs can seem overwhelming and time consuming. Contact the PAC office to schedule an appointment and learn more about the specific programs and services that may be available to you.

CCAMPIS Grant: Could you use assistance paying for childcare? If you are a PELL eligible student, you could qualify to have up to 100% of your childcare expenses paid for.
