A great college experience depends on many factors; one is becoming involved in campus groups and clubs. The Department of Political Science, Criminal Justice and Organizational Leadership sponsors local chapters of national student organizations that are affiliated with different programs of study.

Criminal Justice

Alpha Phi Sigma Criminal Justice Honor Society

Alpha Phi Sigma recognizes academic excellence by undergrduates as well as graduate students in criminal justice. To become a member, the student must be a criminal justice major, or minor, who has complete one-third of the total hours required (40 hours for graduation and maintain a minimum 3.2 overall GPA.

Lambda Alpha Epsilon

Lambda Alpha Epsilon, established in 1937, is a national organization for students and professionals to promote high standards of ethical conduct, professional training, and higher education within the criminal justice profession. Membership is open to all students having declared a criminal justice major or minor.

Students have the opportunity to train and compete in regional and national competitions such as crime scene, firearms, physical agility and academic competitions.

National Society of Leadership and Success (NSLS)

The NSLS is an organization that provides a life-changing leadership program that helps students achieve personal growth, career success, and empowers them to have a positive impact in their communities.

Pi Sigma Alpha National Political Science Honor Society

Xi Omega is the local chapter of the Pi Sigma Alpha National Political Science Honor Society. It is open to political science or international studies majors and minors who meet the following requirements:

Maintain a 3.25 GPA or higher in political science or international studies courses
Complete 10 credit hours of political science coursework
Maintain an overall GPA of 3.00

The prelaw network offers valuable opportunities for students who are interested in attending law school or pursuing careers in law-related fields.

Phi Alpha Delta

Phi Alpha Delta is an international law fraternity that offers a special program to serve pre-law students. PAD offers students advice on attending law school, exposes them to current topics of debate and critical issues in the field of law. Application information is available through the Phi Alpha Delta website.

Student Clubs

Public Administration Student Society - for graduate and undergrate students interested in Public Service/Administration. For more information contact mpa@nku.edu.

Model United Nations Club - provides students and the Northern Kentucky University community a greater understanding of how the United Nations works. Through the Model U.N. Club, members will enhance international understanding and develop educational and practical experiences in world politics. The Model U.N. Club will be the venue for building an art of peaceful negotiation among potential national and international leaders in the world.

Mock Trial Team - Open to students interested in developing their skills in debate, organization and teamwork. Its members serve in all capacities at trial (witnesses, attorneys, etc). This organization is supported by the surrounding legal community and the judiciary. Law Schools report that Mock Trial is being seen as a very positive extra curricular activity for applicants.
